Mikhail Bulgakov's Black Snow

Black Snow is a play based on Mikhail Bulgakov's novel, Black Snow: A Theatrical Novel. In post-revolutionary Russia, a young man, Maksudov, writes a novel about the revolution-- and glorifies the wrong side. Nevertheless, the novel somehow finds its way into print, and Maksudov is approached by Moscow Art Theatre personnel who want to stage the play version in their independent art theatre. While it would seem the young novelist has joined the ranks of the greats (Shakespeare, Moliere, Sophocles), Maksudov finds trouble at every turn.

Black Snow is a comedy about Artistic Integrity clashing with the Business of Art. Though the play takes place in Moscow, the action can be visualized easily as happening in the Hollywood film industry.
