Poetry and Theatre Performance in SL

A Presentation by Phorkyad Acropolis

Poetry and Theatre Performances are everywhere in Second Life.

These pages document some of my work in these areas.

My base of operations is a cabin in Changmi. It started as a bird preserve but the owner decided to sell, so I bought the land under the cabin and an addition 1024 sq. m parcel.

In the summer of 2007 I began re-creating the "backyard" area into an outdoor performance space.

For awhile I had been involved in poetry readings at various venues, including:

  • The Blue Angel Poets' Dive
  • Cruiz Control's Def Poetry Jam
  • Shakespeare and Company at Mill Pond
  • Goofluddotcom Wooley's Readings (pictured at right)
  • Zephyr's Aire Poetry Contest
  • A few others, but less frequently

At a book fair in SL, Persephone Phoenix (far left) and I hosted a poetry event, reading our own works, and bringing others to the stage.

We are joined onstage by Meghamora Woodward, poet and cover artist for The Absence of Shadows.

The first anthology to come out of my publishing efforts: The Absence of Shadows, containing 24 poems by 14 SL residents.

Hydrapond served as DJ for the release party, after we threw the book at him--and it stuck.

The sequel to The Absence of Shadows is Imagining Desire, still in process.

Above is the poster calling for submissions.

Right is the cover proof of succubus and cover artist Meghamora Woodward.

I tend to work with the same people (like Meghamora) repeatedly) because of the rules I have come up for SL projects (though they are applicable outside of Sal as well):

  1. Do it yourself whenever possible.
  2. Work with others you can trust and rely on completely.
  3. When people tell you you can't do something, show them why they are wrong.
